Elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV addressed

A workshop on Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission (EMCT) of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and syphilis was held at the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) Directorate General of Disease Surveillance & Control (DGDSC). The directorate was represented by the Department of Communicable Disease Control at the Holiday Muscat Hotel on Tuesday. The workshop was held under the auspices of H E Dr Mohammed Saif al Hosni, Undersecretary for Health Affairs at MoH with the participation of health and medical cadres.  

The workshop aimed at introducing the services provided to the woman’s programme from pregnancy to postpartum, highlighting the mechanism of validation process, in addition to the methods applied in diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.  

The workshop also outlined the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV services in Oman, management of HIV and syphilis during pregnancy. Case studies were also discussed.
