Three citizens arrested in Thumrait for poaching

Three citizens were arrested for violating provisions of the wildlife law in separate cases in the wilayat of Thumrait in Dhofar.  

The three were arrested by wildlife inspectors from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) in cooperation with the ROP and the Office for Conservation of Environment at the Diwan of Royal Court. Officials from the ministry seized vehicles, weapons and several other items that were used for poaching. 

They have been referred to the competent authorities to complete the legal proceedings. According to Article 15 (b) of Natural Reserves and Wildlife Conservation Law, anyone who deliberately kills, hunts or smuggles any animal or bird will be imprisoned for a term not less than six months and not more than five years.  The law also stipulates a fine not less than RO1,000 and not more than RO5,000.
