The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) represented by the Environmental Department in Al Wusta governorate in cooperation with Mahout Municipality conducted clean-up operations in the Ras al Ruwais beach recently.
The clean-up team collected fishing waste discarded by fishermen as well as visitors to the area. The beach also had rubbish washed ashore as a result of Tropical Cyclone Kyaar that affected the sultanate.
An official at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, said that it received 58 reports of environmental violations from January till September in 2019. Of these, 15 were that of burning and dumping waste. The ministry has urged all visitors to maintain the cleanliness of the places they visit and ensure the safety of the marine environment.
