The Special Economic Zone Authority in Duqm (SEZAD) on Wednesday said that the employment issue of 158 security staff working at Duqm Refinery project has been resolved.
During the past two days, SEZAD in its investigations found that the security firm hired to deploy staff to safeguard the refinery project did not have relevant approval from the ROP for the said service. The firm had violated the articles of Royal Decree 24/99 regulating the practice of providing security services, SEZAD found.
The firm did not comply with the registration and licensing requirements set by SEZAD. Dr Ismail bin Ahmed al Balushi, Acting CEO of SEZAD chaired a meeting attended by officials representing Duqm Refinery Company, contractors executing the refinery project and the Ministry of Manpower.
During the meeting, a decision was taken to place all the 158 employees with the main and sub-contractors working on the refinery project. Saipem Company will accommodate 72 staff, TR & Daewoo 24, Petrofac and Samsung JV 22, while other sub-contractors will hire the rest of the employees within the coming three weeks from the date of the meeting, November 6.
