FedEx Express looks to expand Oman operations, plans new services

FedEx Express, a subsidiary of US-based FedEx Corporation, on Sunday announced that it is transitioning to establish a direct presence in Oman. The company has been operating in Oman since 1993 by offering its services through a local service provider, Oman Postal Express.

Speaking to media-persons at a press conference to announce the company’s direct operations in the sultanate, TaarekHinedi, FedEx Express vice president for the Middle East and North Africa operations, said, “This strategic expansion provides customers with access to an extensive international coverage to and from more than 220 countries and territories, a stronger customer care support system and a wider service portfolio, connecting businesses to new markets and customers across the globe.”

He said that even after initiating direct operations, Oman Postal Express will continue to provide pick up and drop off services to FedEx Express.

Speaking about new services that FedEx Express is planning to offer in Oman, Hinedi said, “In the next few months, we are going to have the ability to add bigger and heavier packages known as FedEx International Express Freight products. We will also be launching FedEx Economy Freight products. We will also be having some specialty type products such as full truck loads. We are also thinking about air charter services.”

He said that Oman is making lots of efforts to diversify its economy and logistics is one of the important pillars of the government’s efforts. “Oman’s Vision 2020 and Vision 2040, both talk about the importance of logistics sector in the country. We believe that going forward there will be opportunities available with us to expand our operations in the country.”

Oman connects the East and West of the GCC region, and in addition to business-friendly conditions, the sultanate has comprehensive initiatives to integrate its road, airport and port networks.”
