India’s largest mobile handset company Micromax opened an exclusive showroom on Ruwi High Street on Monday. Also launched on the occasion was a range of feature-loaded mobile phones, mostly targeting the youth.
The showroom was opened by H E Anil Wadhwa, the Indian Ambassador to Oman. Speaking on the occasion, H E Wadhwa said, “Micromax is the first Indian mobile manufacturing company to enter the sultanate. I hope the company will make its mark in Oman like it has dominated the Indian market in a short span of time.”
Munawar Muneer, director, Molecules LLC, the distributor of Micromax phones in Oman, told Muscat Daily that the company plans to open two more showrooms – one in Sohar and another in Salalah this year. “We have already opened a service centre in Al Khuwayr, and are now concentrating on our distribution network across Oman.”
Muneer said that they have tied up with supermarkets like Carrefour and Emax for distribution. “We have started with Comex and hope to create a buzz there. From May 1, the whole range will be available in retail mobile shops across Oman.”
He added that the company was primarily targeting the youth, as all its phones come with dual SIM capability, with prices ranging from RO14-55. “We are not competing with any brand. Our products are feature loaded, like a battery backup of 20 days, social networking compatibility, and a qwerty keypad, all at an affordable price.”
