UEFA expert in Oman to develop grassroot football

Jamie Houchen

Jamie Houchen, an expert on grassroot football development at the UEFA, Europe's football governing body, has been roped in by the Oman Football Association (OFA) for a three-month stint to help draw up its action plan in its bid to develop grassroot football in the sultanate.

Houchen has worked in the past with the English Football Association (FA) as its head of education and as a consultant with Premier League side Norwich City. The football development expert has been roped in following a recommendation from Jim Selby, the OFA's technical director.

Selby said, “Houchen would be focusing on developing talent in Oman's mainstream clubs, schools and various community clubs, with the aim of promoting the sport among 6-12 year olds.”

Houchen said, “I have been told about the great passion that Oman has for football. I am really looking forward to continuing the development of the sport.”

Selby said, “There are a number of new initiatives planned and Jamie will be on hand to ensure that we start in the right manner.”
