The Ministry of Sports Affairs honoured the achievers of 2012 at a glittering awards function that was held at the Al Bustan Palace on Monday evening.
H E Sheikh Saad al Saadi, the Minister of Sports Affairs, awarded citations of merits and handed over cash awards to athletes across various disciplines. Earlier, H E Sheikh Rashad al Hinai, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Sports Affairs, welcomed the guests and summed up Oman's sporting milestones in 2012.
Nearly 300 sportspersons, coaches and sports administrators from across 19 sporting disciplines received certificates from H E Saadi. Ahmed al Harthy, the reigning Porsche Carrera Cup GB Pro-Am1 champion who was also honoured, addressed the audience and thanked the ministry on behalf of the athletes. Representatives of private sector companies and the local media were also recognised. Omantel received the gold trophy for the second time in a row as the best private sector company to support sports in the country. The silver trophy went to Oman Air, while OMIFCO won the bronze award.
