Local Round-Up: OFA begins events to scout futsal talent

In a new initiative aimed at unearthing young futsal talent, the Oman Football Association's (OFA) events department has begun conducting the Mazda Power of 5 tournaments. 

There will be four tournaments till March with the first one already organised on December 24.

The national futsal team officials as well as the OFA's technical experts are keeping a close watch on the string of competitions in a bid to spot talent. The matches are being played at the Seeb Sports Stadium.

Three players will be picked from each event, who will get to attend a national team camp later this year.


Hockey fest on Jan 20

To mark the 68th Republic Day of India, the Republic Day Cup and the Ambassador Cup exhibition hockey matches will be played at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on January 20.

The event will take place under the patronage of H E Indra Mani Pandey, the Indian Ambassador to Oman. H E Hammad al Ghafri, Advisor at the Ministry of Civil Service and Oman Hockey Association (OHA) Chairman Talib al Wahaibi will be the guests of honour.

The event is being organised jointly by the OHA, Future Group Muscat, Team Coorg Muscat and Friends of Naqvi Group.

Team Coorg Muscat, UTSC (Muscat), Beatrice XI and Omani XI will take part in the Republic Day Cup. Ambassador XI, Indian School Al Seeb, Indian School Muscat, Indian School Wadi Kabir, Indian School Al Ghubra, Indian School Al Mabela and Indian School Darsait will compete for the Ambassador Cup.
