Atkins beats Arrow Overseas

Atkins registered a 21-run win  against Arrow Overseas in their Oman Cricket (OC) E division 25 overs a side league match played at the OAC III ground.

Deciding to field after winning the toss, Arrow Overseas restricted Atkins to 171 for nine in 25 overs. Shehbaz top-scored with 46 and Monty Navani claimed three for 28.

In reply, Arrow Overseas was dismissed for 150 in 24 overs with Praveen Kumar top-scoring with 36. Rajesh Shetty picked up three for 20.

In other matches, SARCO beat OUA by 56 runs in the F-B division while in the G-B division, Attic Outdoors beat Uday Khimji International by four wickets and Enhance Royals beat Tile Marine by 32 runs.

Brief scores: Atkins 171-9 in 25 overs (Shehbaz 46; Monty Navani 3-28) beat Arrow Overseas 150 in 24 overs (Praveen Kumar 36; Rajesh Shetty 3-20).

SARCO 207-8 in 25 overs (Tosim Khan 54, Gireesha Thingalaya 52) beat OUA 151 in 22 overs (Sukumar Anchan 32; Rajendran Mukundan 4-25).

Uday Khimji International 176-7 in 25 overs (Navneet Tirpude 49; Sandeep Datta 3-41) lost to Attic Outdoors 177-6 in 21.2 overs (Madhur Bhatnagar 51,Datta 35).

Enhance Royals 160-9 in 25 overs (Rajesh Arumugam 32; Karinattu Rajeesh 4-32) beat Tile Marine 128 in 20.3 overs (Ajeesh Aboobacker 33; Sharad Krishnamoorthy 4-31).

Dhyan Chand Cup

Team Coorg and United Thalassery Sports Club (UTSC) Oman will organise the Dhyan Chand Hockey Cup match between the Indian Ambassador's XI and S A S Naqvi XI on October 5.

The six a side match will be played at the Oman Football Association (OFA) ground in Qurm, starting at 4.45pm.

H E J S Mukul, the Indian Ambassador to Oman, will be the chief guest at the match while Dawood al Raisi, chairman of the Oman Hockey Association will also attend the event.

Naqvi, former Oman hockey coach, and Syed Sultan Ahmed, veteran hockey player from India, will be felicitated on the occasion.

A total of eight first-round matches in the 12th FRiENDi mobile cricket tournament, organised by Jazz Boys Cricket Club, concluded on Friday. In the only second round match, QAD beat United Metal

Results: Tile Marine beat L&T Electromech, Golden Toss beat Al Bustan Palace Hotel, Royal Challengers beat Directors XI, HCC beat United XI, Al Faisal beat Hamda Sizzlers, United Metal beat Al Rehwan, CBD Challengers beat Titans, Century Cricketers beat Al Seer.

MRFC wins opener

Muscat Rugby Football Club (MRFC) began its 2012-2013 season on Friday with a 50-18 victory over Kuwait Scorpions in the Gulf Conference Rugby Championship.

MRFC went into half-time at 21-18 and later turned the slender lead into a comfortable victory, finishing on 50-18.

Scorpions didn't get to score at all in the second half.

Carl Cotes of MRFC was adjudged Man of the Match for a dominating performance.

MRFC will travel to Bahrain for its next match, scheduled to be played on October 4.
