IFFB World Bodybuilding Championships: Warm welcome for Omani world champions on return

Top officials from the Ministry of Sports Affairs and Oman Bodybuilding Committee accorded a warm welcome to two Omani world champions on Tuesday morning at the Muscat International Airport on their return from the recently-concluded  2017 IFFB World Bodybuilding Championships that was held at Benidorm, Alcante in Spain.

Oman's Haitham al Zadjali and Ahmed al Harthi claimed gold in respective categories at the worlds. It was a top-class performance by both the Omanis at the 71st edition of the championships, organised by the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFFB).

Three of the eight-member Oman team returned with medals as Abdullah al Jabri joined the duo when he claimed a silver in the 75kg category.

Zadjali won the gold in the 85kg class while Harthi won the top place in the 90kg event.

A total of 85 countries participated in the championships this year with Iran winning the overall title.

Zadjali, a runner-up at last year's edition, bettered his performance with a brilliant display this time. Harthi had missed out on medals in the 2013 and 2015 despite reaching the finals but was on top in Spain.

South Korea's Nam Kyoungyun took the gold in 75kg to edge Jabri for silver.

Besides the three medal winners, the other members of the squad were Abdullah al Rahbi, Fahad al Hosni, Abdullah al Hinai, Yahya al Kiyumi and Malik al Harthy.

Mohammed al Siyabi and Nasser al Maskari accompanied the team as coach and head of the delegation respectively. Asad al Hosni was the manager of the team.
