Two projects from Muscat qualify for OCCI Innovation Award

Two projects, ‘Glazing Ceramic and Pottery Industries by using Omani Tree Ashes’ and ‘Old Oman App’ have been chosen to represent Muscat in the finals of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) Innovation Award.

The awards evaluation committee of the Muscat centre assessed five projects, at the Higher College of Technology premises on Wednesday, stated a press release. Projects from North Batinah and Musandam governorates will be evaluated at the Sohar College of Applied Sciences on Thursday.

The evaluation committee for North and South Sharqiyah governorates announced the two projects that have qualified for the finals on September 12. The joint assessments were held at the College of Applied Sciences Sur.

The two projects selected are: ‘First Aid Jacket’ and ‘Electrical and Water Billing System through Power Line Communication without using Telecommunications Network’. OCCI Innovation Award aims to motivate Omani youth by developing their ideas in scientific and technical fields and implementing them to make useful products.

The award also seeks to sustain cooperation between members of the community, such as individuals or institutions of both the public and private sectors, and academic sector in Oman. A total of 460 innovators had applied in the award’s first stage across all centres in the governorates.

The top projects in the third stage will have the opportunity to implement their ideas in Innovation Park Muscat (IPM) of TRC, as well as the opportunity to participate in international competitions. They will also be awarded cash prizes. The award covers a range of fields including tourism, energy, food, security, environment, health, IT, industry and logistics.
