The ROP deported 558 Asian infiltrators via Port Sultan Qaboos in Muttrah on Saturday. A source from ROP's Directorate General of Operations said that the infiltrators were caught while attempting to enter the sultanate. Their files were referred to the concerned legal authority which ordered their deportation.
ROP coordinated with the respective embassies in Oman to verify their identities and clear their deportation measures according to legal procedures.
The official said that ROP teams with the necessary equipment work close to Oman's beaches to catch infiltrators and seize boats transporting them.
The source said that there were people who sheltered and employed infiltrators, which is a violation of Oman's laws and regulations. He said that this practice can encourage infiltrators to commit crimes such as theft, trafficking drugs and indecent assaults. He also warned that as infiltrators were not subjected to medical tests, they could be carrying diseases.
