27 illegal residents arrested
Officials of Seeb police station, in collaboration with a Joint Inspection team from the Ministry of Manpower, arrested 27 Asian women in Muscat governorate for violating the labour and foreigner residence law.
An ROP official said that after an investigation, the police team raided an apartment in a hotel and arrested the women, who had escaped from their employers’ homes. The women were jailed pending further investigation.
The official pointed out that the operation is in line with its efforts to curb the influx of illegal residents into the sultanate. “As part of our continuous fight against illegal residency, several violators have been arrested recently and legal procedures initiated against them,” he said.
The ROP has appealed to citizens and residents to collaborate with them and curb this phenomenon.
