Oman elected in UN body to protect cultural properties

Muscat -

The sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture (MoHC), has been elected as a member of the Arabian group in the permanent committee of the 1970 Convention for Protection of Cultural Property.

The convention deals with procedures to prohibit and prevent import, export and transfer of cultural properties using illegal means.

The election took place in a meeting on Tuesday that was attended by member states at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris. “This sultanate's election is considered one of the most important achievements realised by the ministry, and it highlights the efforts exerted in supporting and assisting international procedures to fight and prevent illegal trafficking of cultural properties,” said a ministry official.
