Mwasalat unveils new taxi service at transport forum

Mwasalat unveiled its new taxi service on Monday. The ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications. The service was unveiled at the seventh United International Public Transport (UITP) Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Assembly at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC). The four-day conference will conclude on Thursday.

Ahmad al Bulushi, CEO, Mwasalat said that at present the company will operate taxis from airports, malls and on call services, “We plan to have around 400 taxis by the first half of this year. There are 120 taxis operational in the airport which the company plans to take over. The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) will announce the tariffs after signing contracts with taxi drivers.”

Speaking about the conference, Bulushi said, “This forum is being held in Muscat for the first time in which delegates from 20 countries are participating. The assembly will focus on the new vision of public transport plan. It will also provide delegates the chance to discuss different business opportunities through meetings with decision-makers,” said Bulushi.

Bulushi also announced the launch of a new service on the South Ma’abela route. “The Route No 7 service will start this March. We will start eight routes this year details of which will be revealed soon. By next year, we will also implement a special taxi service for women which will have women drivers.”
