The sultanate’s capital came third across Africa and the Middle East level after Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Doha, Tunis, Rabat, Amman and Casablanca are placed from fourth to eighth in the region.
The Austrian capital Vienna tops the list, followed by Zurich of Switzerland, Auckland of New Zealand, Munich of Germany, Vancouver of Canada and Dusseldorf of Germany.
Iraq’s Baghdad is at the bottom of the list.
This is the 19th edition of the index prepared by Mercer.
The index relies on a number of factors, such as quality of infrastructure, easy access to means of transport and availability of quality electricity and potable water, telephone and mail services.
It also takes into consideration economic stability, low social and political disorders, availability of banking and health services, availability of media, culture, entertainment services, restaurants and low level of pollution in a country.
