The four-day event was inaugurated by H E Mohsen bin Mohammed al Sheikh, chairman of Muscat Municipality.
The annual exhibition which has proven its worth and significance to Oman’s building and construction industry is offering more than 1,000 products from about 250 companies in 15 countries. Some of the products on display include ceramic and marble, doors and windows, kitchen and bathroom fittings, pumps and valves, HVAC technology, pool and spa, construction equipment and tools, steel, cement, concrete, elevators and escalators and woodworking machinery.
Highlight of this year's exhibition is the pavilions of Germany, Turkey, India, Iran and China and the newly-dedicated Interior Design Oman pavilion which has products ranging from furniture and furnishing, lighting, Italian kitchen and bathroom to decorative paints.
The first day of the show had ‘Oman Sustainable Design Construction Conference’ which was addressed by local and international building, construction and design experts and policymakers from Omran, Al Mouj, GUtech, Daikin Middle East & Africa, Atkins, KEO International and many more.
Their presentations covered projects such as Sandan City, Al Mouj and Madinat al Irfan and other areas like sustainable architecture, smart buildings, LEED accreditation and industry case studies.
According to the show organiser OmanExpo, the building and construction industry faces many challenges but the government is continuing its efforts to encourage private sector and promote foreign investments. It is continuing its drive towards industrialisation and supporting tourism sector through investments in several projects. The BIG Show can be visited from 11am to 8pm and will conclude on Thursday.
