It is also on the lookout for an investor to run a public parking building in Muttrah that has been closed for a long time.
“We are currently looking for companies to design, construct and operate a multi-storey parking in CBD and MBD. The tenders have been just announced, and once we get investors, we will reveal the details. Multi-storey parking will surely resolve the problem of finding parking space in these areas,” a Muscat Municipality official said.
Interested companies have been asked to submit applications to the Muscat Municipality headquarters by December 24.
The Muttrah parking, which has been closed for a long time, will be operational once an investor is found to run it. “Tenders to operate the parking have already been floated,” the official said.
The municipality’s supreme committee for town planning has finalised a plan to give parts of old Muttrah a major facelift. “Old houses will be demolished to make way for new ones, with construction of new internal roads and paved walkways to address the problem of traffic congestion.”
As part of the plan, Muttrah will get better internal roads, parking facilities and walkways.
The municipality is also demolishing old buildings in Ruwi to facilitate development. “Buildings opposite the Ministry of Sports Affairs are being demolished to make way for roads and provide more space for parking,” the official said.
