MoT signs pact for ITC project in Quriyat

Muscat -

The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) on Thursday signed an agreement for a major ITC project in Quriyat that will help develop tourist infrastructure along Oman’s east coast.

The RO385mn seaside project, called Quriyat Tourism Complex, will comprise a golf course, freehold units, a water park, and three, four and five-star hotels. While offering residence to people, it will also be its own tourist destination, open to the public.

It will be located within the vicinity of other tourist attractions, such as Wadi Dayqah, Hawiyat Najm Park and Wadi Shab. The project is a joint venture between Al Madina Real Estate, which developed Muscat Grand Mall, and Fadhaa al Khaleej Company. The venture is called Quriyat Development Company (QDC). The Ministry of Tourism granted the company the right to the land.

The signing ceremony was attended by H E Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, Sheikh Hilal bin Khalid al Mawali chairman of QDC, Eng Khamis bin Mubarak al Kiyumi, chairman of Al Madina Real Estate and Abdul Rahman Barham, CEO of Al Madina Real Estate.

H E Mehrzi said, “This project aligns with the ministry’s efforts in developing the eastern coast of Oman through various tourism projects.

“The development falls within the framework of the Tourism Strategy of Oman 2040, as well as the National Programme for Enhancing Economic Diversification ‘Tanfeedh’, which aims at enhancing the natural and cultural elements to grow tourism across Oman. The Quriyat ITC project will positively reflect on the economic and social levels especially for the citizens of Quriyat who will directly benefit from the development and subsequent operations.”

The project will cover a total area of 1,282,300sq m. It is planned to be built in three five-year phases, with the RO100mn first phase to be completed by 2021. The site is split into three parts: Tourism, residential and recreation facilities. The tourism facilities will include a three, four and five-star hotel with a total of 750 rooms, and a 9-hole golf course.

The residential section will offer 3,000 units. The recreational section will include a water park, boulevard walkway closed off from traffic, restaurants and cafés, cinema halls and a spa. The project will have a floating dock for marine taxis which can be used to reach other tourist sites along the coast, officials said.
