LG launches 84-inch Ultra HD television

Muscat -

South Korean electronics company LG launched an 84-inch Ultra HD television at Lulu Hypermarket Bausher on Sunday. Available for the first time in Oman, the television boasts a screen resolution of 3,840x2,160 that is said to be four times the resolution of a typical 1,080p screen.

Officials said the USP of the product is that it comes with light weight and battery-free glasses, with which each video game player will be able to see only his point of view (in 2D) on the screen. This way the company has done away with traditional spilt-screen feature that is said to minimise gaming experience.

James Kim, marketing manager (television) at LG, said that Sony's 4K technology (ultra HD) TV will not affect the sales of LG's newest product. “We are at the forefront of this technology. Sony has in fact licensed the technology from us.” He added that the Ultra HD TV sales will boost LG's reputation.

The television comes with 240hz TruMotion, which enables watching of high-speed action with virtually no motion blur. It also has a special feature to convert 2D to 3D and comes with a 2.2 speaker system.

It costs RO7,999 and is available only at Lulu Hypermarkets. Further, Lulu Bausher's privilege customers will get an RO1,000 voucher with every purchase.
