Customers who visited the Infiniti showroom in Oman between October 12, 2016 and November 6, 2016 to participate in an Infiniti Q50 test drive were entered in to a prize draw. At the end of the contest, one lucky winner from Oman was selected to go to Valencia.
The winners got the opportunity to perfect their driving skills on one of the world’s most challenging race tracks before making their dream a reality behind the wheel of a race-prepared Grand Prix machine.
In 2016, Infiniti continued its successful involvement in Formula One by entering the next phase, through a technical partnership with the Renault Sport Formula One team.
Leveraging the association, Infiniti offered the chance of a lifetime with the Infiniti Q50 test drive.
A spokesperson for Infiniti Oman said, “Our aim through this campaign was to deliver an unprecedented and enthralling motoring experience to driving enthusiasts, which is not matched by others. The Infiniti Q50 test drive numbers at our showroom are a proof that our customers loved this novel and unique exercise.”
Talking about his Formula One driving experience, Salmi, who is also a drag racer, drifter and a karting driver, said that he was thrilled and lucky to be part of the team that visited Valencia.
He said, “It was a dream come true. Every amateur motor sportsperson dreams about driving or at least being close to the F1 car and I lived that dream.
“They made us go through a fitness test, flexible test reaction test, physiotherapy session, and psychological rehabilitation before certifying us to drive the F1. I also got a chance to be a passenger with an official Renault F1 driver.”
He added, “The Renault Sports Formula One crew was shocked that I could reach 277kmph in my first attempt at Formula One. They were applauding and started referring to me as ‘Iron man from Oman’. I clocked 277kmph in less than four seconds and became the faster driver of the event.
“I thank Infiniti Oman and Renault Sports Formula One team for this memorable experience. Every detail of the programme was planned professionally during our three-day stay in Spain.”
A big fan of Infiniti Q50, Salmi said that the 3l V-6 equipped with two turbochargers and direct injection excites him the most about the car which is studded with luxurious features.
The new Q50 also receives an upgrade with the company’s second-generation Direct Adaptive Steering, comprehensively modified from the daring and ground-breaking first-generation system. Infiniti has enhanced the Direct Adaptive Steering after gathering customer feedback from around the world and completing 625,000 miles of real-world testing.
The standard steering mode now offers advanced levels of steering feel and feedback – more akin to that of a conventional steering system.
The new version of Direct Adaptive Steering works with Active Lane Control (speeds over 70kmph) to maintain lane positioning against crosswinds and uneven road surfaces.
This semi-autonomous capability is a precursor to future steering systems that will form a key building block on the way to achieving fully-autonomous driving.
