Ice Cream Mama, founded by Huda and Rami al Lawati, already has outlets in Shatti al Qurum, Ruwi and Mawaleh.
The kiosk at MGM, situated near the food court, was inaugurated by Hadil al Moosa, a news anchor with Oman TV.
“The aim behind opening a kiosk and not an outlet is to garner more attention. We have something for everyone. For children we have ice creams that taste like marshmallows, candy, Snickers and Nutella.
“We also have dates and laban flavours for those who like Arab culture. People fond of tea with milk will like our Karak Tea Ice Cream. This tea is popular with many in the GCC,” said Lawati.
Ice Cream Mama was not born overnight, said Huda.
“We are both passionate about food and we spend a lot of time in the kitchen. My husband’s mother, who passed away three months ago, used to make ice creams with original Omani flavours. We used to call it Mama’s Ice Cream.
“Such ice creams are made in suburbs. Since, this tradition had slowly started disappearing my husband came up with the idea of starting a business. We spent two years researching about flavours and finally launched in September 2012,” she added.
The Global Village, Dubai too has an outlet. “The outlet was set up in October and will be there till April 2014. Our next outlet will be in Sohar,” said Huda.
