ISC Salalah observes Indian Republic Day, Festival of India

Indian Social Club (ISC) Salalah celebrated the 68th Republic Day of India and Festival India in association with the Indian Embassy in Muscat on January 29.

A semi-classical concert by Padmashree Dr Soma Ghosh and her troupe was held at His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Multipurpose Hall. The programme was graced by Eng Abdul Qadar Ahemed al Haddad, deputy chairman of Dhofar Municipality, as the chief guest and the second secretary (PIC & PPS), Indian Embassy, Shashi Gakhar as the guest of honour.

Addressing the audience, chairman Manpreet Singh said that the Republic Day is a day of importance for all Indians and he was happy to welcome them on this occasion. He also said that such national festivals should be celebrated with patriotic zeal by all members of the community. Haridya Menon, lady co-ordinator of ISC, Salalah was the M C of the evening. Shashi presented a shawl to the vocalist, Padmashree Dr Soma on behalf of Sushma Pandey, wife of India’s ambassador to Oman, and said that she was happy to be in Salalah celebrating the Festival of India and Republic Day.

Dr Khadernawaz Khan, general secretary, lauded the brave soldiers who laid their lives in extreme cold conditions. He also explained the importance and primacy of the Indian Constitution that protects the citizens, granting them their fundamental rights. He also narrated Padmashree Dr Soma’s journey in her music career and thanked the Indian Embassy for sponsoring such programmes.

Singh gave bouquets and mementoes to the chief guest, Shashi and Padmashree Dr Soma and her troupe.
