A group of 20 people held a demonstration in front of the Public Prosecution office in Al Khuwayr on Sunday demanding investigations into all the Sohar protest cases and the immediate release of those who were arrested following last week's protests. The demonstration began at around 10.30am and lasted till 1.30pm.
Abdullah Ahmed al Badi, who had received a bullet injury during the February 27 protests said, “I submitted a complaint to the Public Prosecution about being shot, but have not yet heard from the office. I was was hit on February 27 when I raised my arm in a bid to stop protestors from pelting stones at security forces when Abdullah al Ghimlasi was being moved into an ambulance,” Badi added.
Ali Hilal al Muqbali, another demonstrator said, “Our main demand is a probe into the deaths of Ghimlasi and Khalifa al Alawi.” Their other demand was the immediate release of Ammr al Hinai and Ibrahim al Belushi who were arrested from a checkpoint in the wilayat of Khaboura in the early hours of September 2, he said.
“The two have been accused of setting the Public Prosecution building in Shinas on fire on September 1. Hinaei was with us from 11pm to 3am when the building was set on fire at around 1am,” Muqbali added.
