The Chowking Orient restaurant opened its first branch in Oman in Qurum City Centre's (QCC) food court on Sunday in front of a large crowd of Filipino expatriates, as well as representatives from the Philippines Embassy in Muscat.
Serving a combined Chinese and oriental style food, the brand has risen in prominence in recent years after success in the Philippines and its subsequent expansion across the GCC. A firmly established brand in 18 restaurants across the UAE and two in Qatar, the outlet at QCC is the brand's entry into Oman and hopefully will be enthusiastically greeted by the large expatriate community in Muscat, according to a senior embassy official.
“The embassy is happy the restaurant is finally open and it is something that will please the expatriate community, providing as it does a sense of the food back home,” said Jose L Garcia III, vice consul at the Philippines Embassy in Oman. “There is also a chance to spread a bit of our culture and hopefully Omanis and people from other nationalities will take the opportunity to taste Filipino food.”
