Body of drowned Indian to be sent back today

Muscat -

The body of an Indian youth, who drowned off the coast of Sohar early on Wednesday, was recovered by residents when it washed ashore the same night.

“The body of Shaiju Alex, 30, will be flown on an Oman Air flight to his native place in Kochi, Kerala, on Sunday. We have completed all the formalities and the Indian Embassy has given us the necessary clearance.

"Police have concluded it as a case of drowning,” said Mohammed Ali al Rashdi, chairman of Al Rashdi and Al Mawali Group company, which runs the Dhow Marina Restaurant in Sohar, where Alex worked as a chef.

Rashdi said that after having dinner with friends, Alex went to his room which is near the restaurant early on Wednesday. “His mobile phone was found in his uniform pocket, when the body was found almost 24 hours after he disappeared. He was one of my favourite employees and a highly dedicated professional. I brought him from Dubai when I started this restaurant.

“Last month, he had gone to his native place to get married but returned without tying the knot. He was quite upset over the matter. We had taken him to a private hospital a couple of days back as he looked troubled,” he added.
