Muscat -

As part of ongoing community development initiatives, Bank Sohar recently sponsored the setting up of MaharaBaraam School, the first sports school in Musannah as a firm commitment towards Oman’s youth to ensure the optimisation of latent potential and talent.

The newly constructed sports coaching facility was officially inaugurated under the auspicious of Eng Abdullah Mohammed al Balushi, member of Shura Council representing Musannah, and Shaikh Qais Saeed al Jaradi, head of Mahara Football Team.

Representing Bank Sohar at the official opening ceremony was Ahmed Mohammed al Ajmi from the Musannah branch, who received a token of appreciation from the school for the bank’s support.

Reiterating Bank Sohar’s focus on similar community projects centred around youth development, Khamis Masoud al Rahbi, senior AGM, Retail Banking, Bank Sohar, said, “We have always been dedicated towards supporting the community and various sector-wide initiatives which aim at developing the potential of talented Omani youth, and have a strong history of lending consistent support to organisations and institutions that work towards this goal. Much of our support has been through sponsorship of cultural activities and initiatives, both locally and regionally, that spotlight local talent. We are proud to once again register our support for the youth of Oman so that they are given the best opportunity to learn and shine at the sultanate’s most popular sport, soccer.”

Located in MaharaBaraam School, Musannah, the football field is expected to be an important training ground for youth to master the essentials of soccer. Its long-term plans envisage significant investments in young, budding athletes and professional players as well as the setting up of a professional sports institution in the vicinity.

During the opening ceremony, guests were given a short introduction into the new sports training facility and its goals for young talented athletes, followed by a showcase football match between some of the stars from the national football team and trainers of the Mahara Football Team. As part of the cultural itinerary for the evening, there was an entertainment show by students as well as exciting competitions for guests.
