The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the ITB Berlin (Internationale Tourismus-Borse Berlin), which was held from March 8-12, by Khalid al Yahmadi, CEO, ASAAS, and Matthias Heck, chief financial officer (CFO), Deutsche Hospitality.
The work on the project is expected to start in the second quarter of this year which is coming up as part of a complex, which will also have a business centre and the new headquarters for the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) in the ministries area in Al Khuwayr.
The hotel will be branded as IntercityHotel, which is going to be the second IntercityHotel in the country. The first was opened in Salalah last year. The Salalah hotel is owned by Al Sedra Real Estate of Oman, a subsidiary of the Golden Group of Companies.
As part of a public and private partnership, the hotel and the IPA headquarters project is a partnership between ASAAS and the Ministry of Civil Services, under which IPA operates. A land usufruct agreement for the project was signed in October 2016 by H E Sheikh Khalid bin Omar bin Said al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Services and chairman of IPA and Abdullah al Maamari, chairman, ASAAS. ASAAS will be constructing the hotel and business area along with the new IPA headquarters.
Deutsche Hospitality is the new umbrella brand for the companies of Steigenberger Hotels AG. The brand encompasses 116 hotels, 20 of which are in the development stage. The portfolio includes 56 Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts and 39 IntercityHotels.
