Standard Chartered on Saturday opened a new branch in Qurm, its third in Oman. The other two fully functional branches are in Ruwi and Ghubra.
H E Hamood Sangour al Zadjali, executive president of Central Bank of Oman (CBO), inaugurated the branch in the presence of the British Ambassador to Oman, H E Jamie Bowden, Standard Chartered chief executive Lamin Kemba Manjang, and several other dignitaries.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Manjang said, We have three branches and we plan to open more branches, but not necessarily in 2013. Oman continues to make rapid strides in every sphere and we are proud to be part of the growth.
In reply to Muscat Daily's query on whether the bank will look to open Islamic banking operations in Oman, Manjang added, Islamic banking is definitely a new concept, we will look into the opportunity in look into the opportunity in the Oman market and take a decision in the due course of time.
