The deal includes construction of phase two of the university for nearly 10,000 students. The construction of the new facility is expected to start within the first half of 2013 in order to ensure its completion within the next 18 months.
The project will include a student welfare and services building that will include dining halls, recreation centres, computer labs and student halls. Phase two development will also have several indoor and outdoor sports facilities including a football ground and a separate physical education building named Sohar Sails.
“We have conducted a detailed study of the land on which the project will be constructed. It is away from flood-prone areas and will also be earthquake-proof. We will have a museum in the college that will showcase the history of the university as well as works by previous students,” said Mahmoud bin Mohammed al Garwani, chairman of the board of directors of Sohar University.
“This is the first project for the company in Oman. We will also be looking forward to other projects in the sultanate in sectors like health care, roads, etc,” said Alessio Saracino, general manager of ME Studio Engineering.
