Bargain hunting on key index stocks supported the Muscat Securities Market general index, which inched up 0.41 per cent before closing at 5,556.45.
Trading activity improved as a total of 1,328 trades were executed generating a turnover of RO3.76mn, while 14.09mn shares were traded over the counters.
Market breadth closed in favour of advancers as of the 49 securities traded for the day 25 advanced while five declined and 19 stocks closed unchanged at the session closing.
Stocks closing as top gainers for the day were Voltamp Energy (5.48 per cent at 366bz), Dhofar Cattle Feed (4 per cent at 182bz), Oman & Emirates Investment (4 per cent at 104bz), Gulf International Chemicals (3.61 per cent at 172bz) and Al Anwar Holding (3.18 per cent at 130bz) while stocks closing as top losers for the day were Bank Nizwa (-0.95 per cent at 104bz), bank muscat (-0.72 per cent at 554bz), BankDhofar (-0.60 per cent at 330bz), Jazeera Steel Products (-0.34 per cent at 295bz).
All the three sector indices closed in green. The Financial sector index gained the most and closed up by 0.83 per cent. The Industrial sector index inched up by 0.24 per cent while the Services sector index added 0.34 per cent.
