Maharat celebrates two years of training excellence

Maharat, an Omani funded training business to train the Omani workforce, on Tuesday celebrated second anniversary of its brand establishment and two years of training excellence.

The event was held under the patronage of H E Eng Salim al Aufi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas, at Maharat’s premises at Knowledge Oasis Muscat.

On this occasion Maharat also showcased its training facilities, products and capabilities, sharing its achievements and future objectives to attract business and partnerships.

The event was attended by Maharat’s clients, training associates, collaborating partners and accrediting bodies sharing the celebration to reinforce Oman’s vision of having a globally competitive workforce. It also highlighted the importance of practical training to contribute to Oman’s in-country value (ICV) initiative.

Speaking at the event, Warith al Kharusi, chairman of the board at Maharat, said, “We are proud that we are continuously training the workforce with excellence and reinforcing Oman’s vision of having a globally competitive workforce. Maharat will strive to directly contribute towards Oman’s objective of creating 50,000 jobs by 2020.”

He said Maharat’s vision is ‘to align continuous practical training with employment’. This means that they are 100 per cent geared to in-country value with Omanisation at the heart of their agenda.

“We want to contribute in making Omani workforce globally competitive and it can be done only by aligning effective training with job requirements,” he said.

Kharusi said the certifications from Maharat are internationally accredited and the company further wants to bring global training standards to Oman. “We have a very selective process to ensure the competitiveness. The candidates are required to achieve a high level of competence before they are given a certification.”

Maharat’s legal entity is the Oman Centre for Skills Development (OCSD) which is branded as Maharat.

H E Aufi said the Ministry of Oil and Gas is planning to raise the standards for training requirements in the oil and gas sector, and setting a minimum standard requirement for different types of skills.

“We are emphasising on practical skills. We want the coupling of training with accreditation,” he said.

Maharat, which specialises in providing vocational, technical and essential employment skills, offers short and long programmes; many of which can be internationally accredited through its globally recognised partners.
