Most regional stock markets ended the day marginally higher, buoyed by stronger global markets on some relatively upbeat Chinese economic data, with crude oil futures strength also providing some support.
The Muscat Securities Market general index ended the day flat at 5,557.81. Trading activity improved substantially with the listing of alizz islamic bank. A total of 1,702 trades were executed generating turnover of RO6.27mn, while 27.67mn shares were exchanged over the counters.
Market breadth stood in favour of advancers as of the 48 securities traded for the day 20 advanced, seven declined and 21 stocks closed unchanged. Voltamp Energy gained for the second consecutive day and added another 4.65 per cent at 383bz while Dhofar Cattle Feed gained for a second day, adding 3.30 per cent at 188bz.
Among the top gainers for the day were DIDIC (+2.15 per cent at 332bz), Sweets of Oman (+2.02 per cent at 908bz) and Al Batinah Development & Investment (+1.89 per cent at 54bz).
Among the sectoral indices, the Financial index closed with marginal loss of 0.02 per cent while the Industrial index gained 0.08 per cent. The Services index generated most buying interest and closed with gains of 0.41 per cent.
