The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) tender for Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company’s (ORPIC) Sohar Refinery expansion project has been floated. Tender 146/2012 for the major EPC contract was floated last week, while another tender has also been floated for procurement of long-lead items for the refinery expansion project.
The documents for both tenders will be distributed until January 16, 2013 with the last date for submitting bids on February 11. According to reports, as many as nine international engineering companies were shortlisted during the pre-qualification process for the EPC contract earlier this year.
The expansion project is expected to improve Sohar Refinery’s product quality and increase refining capacity by more than 70 per cent to add another 60,000 barrels per day of oil to its current capacity.
The expansion, which is estimated to cost between US$1.5- 1.8bn, is expected to be completed by the first half of 2016. The project will be implemented at Sohar Industrial Port to complement the existing Sohar Refinery, which was commissioned in 2006.
